Lessons with Chris Morgan

Chris Morgan Drummer

How it all began..

Born in Jersey, my passion for music began in my late teens whilst studying for my A-level in Music Technology. Originally self-taught on drums, and getting involved with various bands, I knew this was something I wanted to take further. I took lessons with Ernie Mallett, and then went on to move to London to study Popular Music Performance at Drumtech.

After completing my formal education I was fortunate enough to find a band which I would become a member of for the next several years. We went on to write, record and tour, with regular shows all over the UK and Europe including cities like Berlin, Paris, Milan and Copenhagen, and took part in recording sessions with several other acts.

Teaching..

In 2012 I was enticed back to the island to begin a teaching career at Chordz Music School and have been teaching people of all ages and abilities to play the drums on a full-time basis ever since and have never looked back.

In teaching I’ve realised a passion for passing on knowledge and experience to those looking to learn or to extend their current skill set. I am so privileged to be able to experience this journey with people, watching them develop and flourish, not only as characters, but as musicians, seeing confidence grow; talent increase; and a passion for music ignite.

Roodmood and other ventures…

As well as teaching full-time, I’ve also had the pleasure of continuing performing as a drummer in the popular local band Roodmood, who continue to fill out their diary playing private functions, weddings and corporate parties.

I’ve also been fortunate enough to have plenty of opportunities to keep up with the music production side of things. Whether that be recording the demos for various bands; creating the samples, loops and backing tracks for my hybrid drumming setup; or being one of the resident live sound engineers in Chambers when gigs there were more frequent.

Overall - It’s been enlightening to approach music from many different angles. With a good ear and a (somewhat) good taste, I’m also DJing at functions and bars, something which has been a natural fit given my love for music and knowledge of music production.
